The 2011 Solheim  Cup Teams

Dunsany, Ireland - At the Solheim Cup matches at Kileen Castle just outside

of Dublin, the European team staged a comeback of epic proportions. When it

looked like defeat was likely for the Euros, that's when they showed their mettle.

In a dramatic 15-13 victory, the European Women captured the Solheim Cup

for the first time since 2003.Starting the final day of singles tied at 8-8, the

momentum had swung in the Americans favor late in the singles matches,

(despite Cristie kerr's earlier withdrawl with a wrist injury) . . . but the Euro's

would rally.

Suzann Pettersen birdied the last three holes of her match against Michelle

Wie to capture a point, Laura Davies finished all square in her match with Julie

Inkster,  Caroline Hedwall who was two down with two to play, gained a hard

earned half against rookie Ryann O'Toole, and Azahara Munoz won the 18th

hole against Angela Stanford to clinch the Cup.

In the end, the LPGA and Womens Golf really needed this type of an event . . . the

drama was exciting (despite all of the weather delays on Sunday). An event as well

staged as this can only help Womens Golf around the world.

It was learned Sunday evening, that Tiger Woods has hired Joe Lacava to

be his third caddie, Lacava had been working for Dustin Johnson the last few

months.Lacava previously had worked for Fred Couples for 21 years, it must

be a sweet deal, especially since Lacava and Johnson just won a few weeks

ago at the Barclays, and Tiger hasn't won in over 2 years.

Prattville, Alabama - At the Navistar LPGA Classic, Alexis Thompson became the

youngest Champion in the 61 year history of the LPGA, her final round 70 and a

-17 total was good enough for a five stroke victory over Tiffany Joh.The site of

this history making event was the Senator Course, which is part of the Robert

Trent Jones Golf Trail, Capital Hill facility.

Lexi (as she is known), is 16 years, 7 months and 8 days old . . .  before her the

honor was held by Marlene Hagge who was 18 years, 14 days old in 1952 at the

The victorious GB&I squad

Paris, France - At the Vivendi/Seve Trophy Matches at Saint Nom La Breteche, the

Continental Europe team mounted an unbelievable comeback, only to fall just short

at the hands of the GB&I team.

In the match of the day, Italian phenom Matteo Mannasero held a slim 1up lead

over Ian Poulter throughout the round, that is until the last few holes when Poulter

just went off . . . making three birdies in five holes to clip the young Italian.

GB&I were up 5 points heading into the singles, but a spirited charge by Continental

Europe had the matches all tied at 11.5 at one point, thanks to victories early on

by Thomas Bjorn over Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Jimenez over Open Champion

Darren Clarke.

Speaking about his daring shot into the 18th, “I needed to do something to

finish,”revealed Poulter. “He hit a great shot and I said to Paul walking down the

fairway ‘I'm going to go straight at this’.Indeed he did, knocking it close and pouring

in the 5 footer to show why he is perhaps the best Match play golfer in the world

today.

GB&I defeated the Continentals 15.5-12.5
