Best New Products - Part 2 (Apparel/Shoes & Accessories) Print

By Jason Bruno

In part 1 of our Best New Products of the 63rd PGA Merchandise Show, we presented our

picks for the best Clubs, Golf Balls and Tech/GPS items. In Part 2 we'll give you our take on

latest golf footwear, apparel, eyewear, and accessories.

Puma's new Ignite golf shoes launched in December, retaining some of the style and technology

from of the previous TitanTour, but with some serious upgrades. The TitanTour Ignite premium

has a new platform, and along with the infusion of Ignite foam, the new treads are built for

extreme comfort and all day play. The upper features full grain aniline leather and pigskin

Puma's premium model is for the golfer who wants a more sophisticated style, and comes

in 3 colors, brown, gray, and white. This was probably the shoe I most desired at the show

(everyone knows you can never have enough stylish/comfortable golf shoes).  Shoe Maestro

Grant Knudson who creates all of these innovative golf shoes for Puma, described the demo-

graphic for this shoe as: "for the progressive tradionalist". Couldn't agree more, sign me up

for an 11.5 med width.

The TitanTour Ignite gives the consumer more of what they expect from Puma - sporty with

bright colorways. All Ignite golf shoes feature a sleeker more rounded toe down look, but

actually have a slightly wider last in the forefoot. Rickie's Ignite high top will be a limited

edition run in 2016. PWRCOOL technology by Outlast, increases ventilation to keep you

playing at an optimum temperature.

Adidas introduces 360Tour Boost, as their top of the line flagship premium

model for 2016. If you've never worn a BOOST model golf shoe, you're missing

out on the most responsive heel/sole area of any golf shoe on the market. Adidas

spent 10 years creating this shoe, so you know it's worthy.

360TOUR Boost comes in 6 different color ways (including the official USA 2016 Olympic golf

In the casual spikeless golf shoe market, Skechers GoGolf Drive 2 are new for 2016 -

featuring soft RESAMAX material insole technology for ultimate comfort. We've already

started testing these, and an early thumbs up is definitely in order.

Footjoy introduced Freestyle at the show as their new sporty casual golf shoe model.

A closer look shows FootJoys traction system inspired by Tree Frogs superior grip, called

F.R.O.G.S (FootJoys - Revolutionary - Outsole - Grip - System), it incorporates a super -

flexible new SoftMax translucent outsole that offers both softer feel and extra grip. Footjoy

Freestyle comes in choice of BOA and standard lace.

Nobody gives your feet a better day - on or off the links than Kentwool. Their famous Tour

Series socks feature superfine Merino wool (a natural Smart Fiber w/Windspun technology.

No more blisters. Kentwool is now available in nearly every color and in different profiles,

from the Tour Profile, Low profile, Standard and now in the Game Day Collection (that comes

in your favorite team colors combinations).

We've talked about the latest in golf shoes and socks, so why are these sandals in our golf show

feature? Well, after a day at work on your feet all day or walking the links, your feet need

recovery - enter Oofos. As John McMahon explained, "Traditional athletic shoes made of EVA

deliver rebound and energy return benefits to propel you forward during your fitness activities.

Oofoam does the opposite, absorbing 37% more of the impact to reduce the stress on your feet

and body to help you recover."

We started testing Oofos (Ooahh Sport model) about 10 days ago, wearing them everyday

after work and golf . . . I have no idea how my feet made it this long without them. Recovery

Sunice - The weather is rough out there, but you still want to get out there as soon as

The folks at Golf Pride have come out with a new putter grip called Tour SNSR (obviously short

for Sensor), tour players have described feel as their #1 reason for choosing a putter grip.

According to Golf Pride Retail Product Manager Bruce Miller, the new grip gives players feedback

in the lower hand and a 40% softer compound in the upper hand for feel - combining the two,

all in one grip. The lighter the grip pressure, the better the feel on the greens. Two shapes: the

straight profile is the same diameter from top to bottom, and then there's the more traditional

pistol contour. Both styles come in different sizes, 140cc and 104cc in volume.

Our Friends over at Zero Friction have teamed up with a golf legend to create the new

Motion-Fit system glove. Zero Friction President John Iacono welcomed Johnny

Miller into the fold as part owner in the company, and Miller seems quite passionate

about the product line. The Motion-Fit glove offers the same universal fit as with past

models, but the new spandex glove body offers a perfect compression fit - combined

with cabretta leather in the fingers and palm for the best glove we've EVER tested.

Imperial broke new ground with their CoolCore hat technology in 2015, in 2016 they

offer up the same innovation in their Instant Cooling Towel. CoolCore is 30% cooler

when it's wet. Summer will be here before you know it. Stay Cool . . .

Look for these and other great products to be tested and reviewed by us in 2016.
