Westwood Wins Abu Dhabi Championship Print

Lee Westwood celebrates after coming out on top in Abu Dhabi

UAE - Lee Westwood captured the Abu Dhabi Championship defeating a

stellar field for his 25th career triumph on the European Tour. Westwood

finished at 19 under par, two strokes clear of Tommy Fleetwood, Victor

Perez and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Westwood's final round 67 at Abu Dhabi was the 46 year old's maiden

victory at the event. "I had a little slip at 16 but I hit some good shots

coming in," said Westwood. "It's been a good week, I'm just really happy

the way I controlled myself. I wasn't paying attention to other people, I

was just trying to control my emotions."

The win puts the Ryder Cup back into focus after missing out on playing

in 2018. "It's just nice proving I can still do it. It was good watching last

time, but if there is a chance to get on the team I will obviously go for it."

The 2020 Ryder Cup will be held in Kohler, Wisconsin at Whistling straits.

World No.1 Brooks Koepka finished tied for 34th at 8 under par.
