PING G440K Driver

This year PING added the “K” driver to their impressive G440 (2025) lineup that includes the LST, SFT, and the super popular MAX.  With an MOI higher than they’ve ever created, PING claims the G440 K driver is their straightest and most forgiving driver ever. The “K’ continues what the G440 Max started – adjustable weighting, stability, and improved sound and feel… all while adding incremental ball-speed gains. The “K” is a tweak or a refinement of the Max model, if you will – not a completely new concept.

G440 Max vs G440 “K”

Can you tell the difference between last year’s Max and this year’s K from the crown view? The new K has a slightly larger profile, but looks identical to me. Matte black, carbon fiber, and turbulators have become a staple of the brand. A closer look at the sole provides evidence of the new technology. Disregard the lead tape addition (on my gamer), the contrast lies in a titanium sole plate of the Max model, while the K has Dual Carbonfly (top & bottom). The extra few grams of weight savings were put into the adjustable rear weight of the “K”(now 32grams).

Focusing on the “K”, it features a forged T9S+ titanium face, paired with a new VFT pattern (Variable Face Thickness). Travis Milleman of PING, explained, “The intent is to deliver more consistent ball speed across a wider area at impact. The “K” is overall slightly lighter in head weight, but our testing shows slight ball-speed gains over the Max, particularly on mishits.”

In other words, forgiveness and fast ball speeds combined in the same model are a rare combination.

Testing

When G440 line arrived in 2025, we (and other reputable reviewers) raved about the sound and feel – easily the best feeling PING drivers ever introduced… a huge improvement from the loud tinny sounds of past offerings (many of which provided superb performance, but a less than pleasing sound at impact). Finally, a PING driver that rivals the sound/feel of a TaylorMade or Titleist driver head. The “K” follows suit, as I toggle between the Max and “K” on the range, I notice no difference in sound or feel. Knowing what not to tweak can also be considered a win.

Since I’ve personally been gaming on the G440 Max for the past year, I was eager to see for myself whether the “K” offered any performance gains.

Industry tests have shown that the “K” provides faster ball speeds on low heel misses vs high toe strikes. I tend to hit 90% of my tee shots about 5mm high and slightly on the toe side, I was interested to see my results with the “K”. Also, because my impact favors the toe side of the sweetspot, I don’t need a low-spin driver, I actually benefit a bit from a head that adds a bit of spin. The “K” is designed to be slightly lower spin than the Max, you can see where I’m going here. What’s generally better for most, may not benefit you, or in this case, me.

Our test model came in Alta CB50 stiff (46″), although it feels phenomenal at impact with that shaft, it may be a touch softer of a profile than I require (dispersion is off the map). We swapped it out for a True Tremper Denali Blue 6.0 (that plays at 45 1/4″).

Testing both in the simulator and on the course confirmed that the Max performed slightly better for me.

G440 Max – 147 ball speed/ 100.3 clubhead speed/ 14.1 launch/ spin 2561/ carry 248/ 271 total/ offline avg 7.7yds L

G440 K – 148 ball speed/ 101.1 clubhead speed/ 13.3 launch/ spin 2199/ carry 242/ 270 total/ offline avg 17.3 yds L

The distance data doesn’t show a significant difference, but the 10-yards of additional dispersion is worth discussing. This could very well be rectified by a deep dive of fine-tuning the adjustable components (both clubheads are set up in the neutral orientation, with the CG shifter (rear weight) positioned in the center location..

Summary

Did testing the “K” make me bench my gamer (PING G440 Max)?

No, but it pushed the gamer close to the limit, since my backspin metrics and strike pattern on the face are somewhat of an exception, which just happens to fit the Max a bit more than the “K” (which likely will be opposite for the majority of golf consumers). Because most will benefit from higher MOI, and slightly lower spin, the “K” will be an upgrade for most gaming the G430 10k and last year’s Max model.

For anyone looking for supreme stability, forgiveness and fantastic feel – while generating fast ball speeds, all in a moderately low spin driver, this might be the best of both worlds. Acquiring a unicorn doesn’t come cheap, though – the G440 K retails at $649.
