Las Vegas – Sungjae Im fired a final round 62 at TPC Summerlin to capture the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas. The four-stroke victory over Matthew Wolff was Im’s second career title on the PGA Tour (2020 Honda Classic). His 24 under par total was accumulated throughout the week with precise ball striking and timely putting after starting the event with two straight bogey-free rounds of 63-65. A third-round 70 left Im three behind of Adam Schenk at the 54 hole mark.
Im started off hot early during Sunday’s final round, making four birdies on his first seven holes. Not long after, he caught fire with five straight birdies on holes 9 thru 13. He parred his way in on the final five holes to settle for a 62, the low round of the day.
“The big difference between yesterday and today was today, there was no wind compared to Round 3 and that made it easier,” Im says. “Tee-to-green, driver, irons, putting game, it worked as I wanted to and it gave me a good result.”
“My caddie Billy, we started a couple weeks prior to the Olympic Games and he’s been a very good help to me,” Im says. “We’ve been a very good team working together, communicating. My trainer Andrew, we started Phoenix week. As I got to my second and third year on tour, I felt the importance of conditioning and keeping myself stronger and healthy, so we’ve been working really hard and I’m glad it all turned out well.”
