Scottie Scheffler Defends at WM Phoenix Open

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Scottie Scheffler notched big double on Sunday, he defended his Waste Management phoenix Open title, and he regained No.1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Scheffler’s final round 6-under 65 (19 under par total) at TPC Scottsdale held off a primetime leaderboard to capture the WM Phoenix Open for a second straight year. He held off underdog Canadian Nick Taylor by two strokes. “I knew it was going to take a great round,” Scheffler said. “Nobody was going to give this golf tournament to me. I had to go out and earn it. I was definitely proud of the result.”

Taylor, who now lives in the Scottsdale area, practices and plays at TPC Scottsdale. He had a clean card on Sunday until he pushed his 7-foot par putt at 16. Taylor finished with a final round 65 and earned the largest check of his career at $2.1 million.

“I played great today. I felt like I didn’t really make any mistakes maybe until 16,” Taylor said. “I would love the chip back (which raced 7 feet by the hole). I felt like that was one I could potentially hole. It was still a tricky chip, but one I would like to do little bit better.”

Last February, Scheffler to won for the first time in Scottsdale, now he’s back on top of the golf world.

*Notables – Jon Rahm finished solo third at 14 under par. Justin Thomas was solo fourth at -13, and Jason Day was fifth at -12.
