Anna Davis Captures Augusta National Women’s Amateur

Anna Davis celebrates at Augusta National Golf Club

Augusta, Ga – Sixteen-year-old Anna Davis, a sophomore in Spring Valley, California and the 100th ranked player in women’s amateur golf, fired rounds of 70-76-69 shocking the college elite to capture the third edition of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur by a single stroke over LSU’s Ingrid Lindblad and 36 hole leader Latanna Stone.

Although the win seemed like an unlikely upset from an unknown, Anna Davis has the pedigree – earning her spot in the field by winning twice in 2021, including a seven-stroke victory in the Girls Junior PGA Championship last July to earn her invitation to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The San Diego area native made her debut at Augusta almost a year to the day after her first big victory – at the Heather Farr Classic last April.

Davis was a member of the 2021 U.S. Junior Solheim Cup team and finished the year with a third-place finish at the AJGA Tournament of Champions. She was also named to the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team, but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Davis began the final round two back of co-leaders Latanna Stone and Beatrice Wallin, and with a birdie at the ninth, Davis turned with a one-under 35 and continued her steady play on the inward nine, quietly finishing with a final round 69 for a 1 under par total and the leader waiting in the clubhouse. Stone appeared in control, two shots ahead standing in the seventeenth fairway, but she faltered coming in and missed her putt to tie on the last. She showed class in defeat, “It’s just heartbreaking, you know?” Stone said afterwards. “I knew where I stood on 17, and I was just thinking par out. I was trying to be aggressive and just kind of lost it, but I thought I could get it back on 18, but I had a lot going on in my head with where I was at.”

Stone’s finish was surprising for all, including Davis, “I’m still a little shocked. I don’t think it’s processed yet that I’ve won here, but it’s pretty surreal, to be honest,” said Davis after shooting a final-round 69 to finish at one-under and win by a shot over Latanna Stone (72) and Ingrid Lindblad (68). “I literally—I’m speechless. I can’t even fathom what just happened.”
