Back to Back! Lucas Glover Keeps Rollin, Wins Fedex St.Jude

Memphis, Tennesee – Lucas Glover is reborn, sort of – in a golf career sense that is. After winning the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield last week to get into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, he beat all challengers (including Patrick Cantlay on the 1st hole of a sudden death playoff) in the postseason opener to bolt all the way to No.4 in the standings.

Glover’s ball striking Sunday wasn’t sharp, but his scrambling was stellar during his final round 69, just enough to tie Cantlay (64) in regulation on Sunday at -15. The playoff was short-lived, Glover dispatched Cantlay shortly after he hooked his tee shot into the water left of the 18th fairway. Glover hit his fairway wood off the tee into the shortgrass, and his approach to 20 feet, forcing Cantlay to make a par-saving putt on the same line to stay alive. After Glover two-putted for his par, he watched as Cantlay’s roll just slid by. the cup. The 43-year-old resident of Jupiter, Florida is suddenly the hottest player in the world.

Glover was No. 112 in the FedExCup standings entering last week at Sedgefield, after that win he jumped up to No. 49 to qualify for this week’s event in Memphis. It was just keep fighting, keep fighting,” Glover said. “Closing holes here aren’t easy birdies, and aren’t easy pars really under pressure, so it was just keep fighting, stay close, stay close, and I was fortunate to get in a playoff. I said yesterday the guns would be coming, and they came. I was just the last man standing this week.”

Rory McIlroy (65) and Tommy Fleetwood (68) finished in third at 14-under, and Taylor Moore (71) finished in fifth at 12-under on the week.
