Review – Breakthrough Golf Technology – FORTA Shaft

Breakthrough Golf Technology recently introduced FORTA… a new premium shaft line that is a refinement of the previous BRAVA line of driver and fairway shafts.

The new iteration features their exclusive Speedflite NRG technology alongside structural reinforcement zones that minimize unwanted shaft deflection and twisting through impact. By integrating advanced carbon materials into a lightweight profile, BGT aims to help golfers generate more speed naturally while maintaining face control, improved energy transfer, and a tighter downrange dispersion pattern.

According to BGT, FORTA provides an active feel with a smoother-than-most load at the top of the swing into transition… and a lively kick at the release point. Despite its lightweight profile, the shaft does not feel loose; in fact, it feels very stable through the hit.

The red finish is so glossy it looks like a sporty race car-like aesthetic… from the jet-black grip end of the shaft, that transitions to candy-apple red with bold “FORTA” branding… this shaft exudes confidence.

The Specs on the standard FORTA range from 46 grams and 5.6 torque in their softest profile (Senior Flex) – F2, up to 58 grams and 4.0 torque on the most stout model F5 (X-Flex)

For players with faster tempos who need a more robust profile to control their flight, BGT offers the Forta Tour. The Tour version utilizes a heavily reinforced tip section engineered specifically to keep the launch down a bit and lower the spin. A proper fitting will determine which is the best option for your swing.

Testing:

Like the previous BGT shafts we’ve tested FORTA is a different type of golf shaft (similar in concept to the Autoflex), FORTA offers explosive ball launch. Full disclosure – I’m still gaming their SIERRA ECHO shaft in my R7 Mini Driver, and their BRAVA fwy shaft in my trusty Mavrik 5wd. I hover around 100 mph of swing speed (which by speed standards is pretty average), so anything that allows my ball speed to reach 150 mph, is a win. As compared to my gamer – True Temper Denali Red shaft, I saw a few gains with FORTA in my gamer driver. I picked up 3 mph of ball speed with which isn’t much, but the biggest gains I had were in the carry metric, where I went from a 236 carry average to 247 yards… 11 yards is a decent gain. Compared to the Denali, FORTA launched at 14.7 degrees / 2420 spin / 149 ball speed, vs Denali Red at 13.1 degrees / 2043 spin / 146 mph ball speed. FORTA also provided a slightly tighter dispersion than Denali, eliminating the low left miss… which I detest. I’m the rare player who’s looking for more spin, when most are trying to find a fit for less spin.

FORTA’s feel can best be described as smooth with a lively kick into impact. BGT’s advanced torque control keeps the clubface stable even during my fastest swings. My miss on less-than-ideal swings with FORTA is a playable block to the right, and that’s exactly what I want, a playable miss, with my best swings going further and straighter.
