Cobra DS-Adapt X Driver Review

Following the highly successful Darkspeed release in 2024, Cobra refined a few things with the new DS-Adapt line and created a revolutionary innovation with their FutureFit33 adapter. We tested the DS-Adapt X, the company’s core model that will fit the most golfers across all demographics and swing types – featuring the ideal blend of speed and forgiveness.

Never before has their been fine tuning to the degree of the FutureFit33 adapter, it offers 33 unique loft & lie settings to allow you to find your ideal ball flight, minimize your miss, maximize your distance, and dial-In your game off the tee.

Unboxing the X model, the sole comes set up with a 10 gram weight in the rear and a 3 gram weight in the front- the most forgiving configuration. Changing the position of the weights would create lower launch and lower spin.

Clean crown and top line, simple scoring lines on the face aid with alignment at address.

QR code graphic for the FutureFit33 built right into the hosel is a genius move.

Stock shafts: True Temper Denali Black 60 (S – 65g)
MCA Tensei AV Blue 60 (R – 66g)
True Temper Denali Blue 60 (S – 65g, R – 64g)
True Temper Denali Red 50 (A – 55g)

Testing:

Like most Cobra drivers of the past, the DS-Adapt X has a fantastic crisp but muted sound at impact (very similar to the 2019 cult hero – Cobra’s F9 Speedback). At address, the X’s matte black crown and small Cobra logo is very pleasing to the eye. The stock Denali Blue shaft will fit the largest demographic of players (similar to Tensei Blue, Kaili Blue, etc) – mid launch/mid spin.

When comparing the DS-Adapt X with our most recent driver review – the Ping G440 Max, a few things were immediately evident. The X produces superfast ball speeds, but anything struck over 5 mm from the sweetspot loses some of that great feel. This is in direct contrast to the G440 that feels amazing, no matter where impact is made on the face. So, it’s great if you want instant feedback, not so if you want that trampoline sensation on every strike. The good thing is, the X model doesn’t lose much ball speed at all no matter where it contacts the face.

For me, the DS-Adapt X produced a medium launch baby-draw ball flight. I’m still experimenting with the FutureFit33 adapter, tested in the A1 neutral setting. Performance #’s 101 swing speed / 151 ball speed/ 14 launch / 2250 spin / 252 carry / 276 total. On the golf course the misses are left, not something I want to see, so presently have changed the setup into the A5 position (2 degrees flat lie angle). Solid all-around results, but it needs some fine tuning to optimize the dispersion.

The Ping G440 Max unseated the long lived TSR3 from my bag, we’ll see if Cobra’s DS-Adapt X can find it’s way in. Stay tuned . . .
