Billy Horschel Wins WGC Dell Match Play Print

Billy Horschel celebrates after winning the WGC Dell Match Play in Austin

Austin, Texas - Billy Horschel defeated former Texas Longhorn Scottie

Scheffler for his first World Golf Championship at the Dell Technologies

Match Play at Austin Country Club.

Unspectacular play was on display for the final match, likely a result of

the five day grind of head-to-head battles. Scheffler won the second

hole to take an early lead, but Horschel chipped in on the fifth to grab

the momentum and proved to be the steadier of the two, constantly

applying pressure to the 24 year-old Texan, making clutch putt after

clutch putt. Billy Ho never trailed again. The final ended on the 17th,

a 2&1 victory for the former Florida Gator.

Horschel defeated Victor Perez in the semifinals and Scheffler defeated

Matt Kuchar earlier in the day to reach the finals.

The win was the sixth career PGA Tour victory for Horschel and his first

World Golf Championship.
