If you’re like me, footwear (especially in the golf genre) is more than just gear for your feet – It’s an overall refresh of comfort, traction, energy return, style, and who doesn’t love a little extra bounce in their step? A new pair of golf shoes provides a similar anecdote to getting your clubs regripped – specific points of contact and all. Footwear is the only gear that attaches you to Mother Earth… clearly an underrated element of playing your best golf.
I continue to get the question, “What are the best golf shoes out there on the market?” and I usually volley the question back across the net with several questions of my own. Cleated or spikeless? Choice of style? Your preference for a cushy or firm feel? What type of feet do you have in terms of width and arch? Do you usually walk or ride? What’s your budget? What’s ideal for me, may not be for you, and how you play your golf is a huge key. When I’m out west in California, Oregon or Washington, I walk most rounds… conversely in South Florida, 90% of my golf is played in a cart. Do you play dew-sweeper early morning or twilight golf? The turf is normally firmer/dryer in the afternoons, which may influence whether you require or prefer, spikeless or fully cleated footwear. Finally, are you a smooth tempo swinger, or an aggressive fast tempo player?
In 2026, we have twelve brands in our latest edition of the Best Links Footwear Review (eleven pictured in the group image above – Puma samples arrived after the class photo). Twenty-one pairs were tested, with two new brands joining the fray this year (Alma Mater, and Sun Day Red). We all know the Sun Day Red/ Tiger Woods brand, but Alma Mater is one that has a story that very few know about. We dig deep into the details, not only on the footwear, but how and why this new premium golf brand is worth checking out.
This year’s crop of test subjects is by far the most impressive in the decade that we’ve been publishing the multi-brand BLF… and once again, there’s something for everyone. From spikeless to fully cleated – from $100 to nearly $300, there are choices, and you might be surprised by the OEMs that impressed the most. As you can see from the group photo, white is still the predominant upper colorway, but there are some popping accent colors thrown into the mix.
The industry continues to gravitate towards spikeless, despite tour players going the other way… and this is where the greatest innovations are taking place. A baker’s dozen of the twenty-one pairs tested are spikeless.
As is customary with our annual Best Links Footwear review, each brand is listed in alphabetical order.
ADIDAS – MC70

Inspired by the iconic 1970s golf style, the MC70 Golf Shoes provide an ideal duality – an ode to timeless classy style, but loaded with modern performance and comfort leading technology. The leather upper oozes premium quality, while Adi’s BOOST combined with Lightstrike technology midsole, offers super-light cushioning and energy return that supports long days walking the links and high-speed golf swings. Adi’s fully cleated outsole with rubber molded traction lugs handles the heavy lifting.

- Waterproof genuine leather- Soft, adaptive, rich but still protective for securing an ideal inner climate.
- BOOST & LIGHTSTRIKE Combo – Lightweight design meets maximum comfort, delivering high energy return and all-day support in a classic silhouette.
- Torsion System – Equipped with controlled torsionality to stabilize your footwork.
- Cast PU outsole – Delivers superior grip, long-lasting durability, and a sleek translucent finish for high-performance style.
- Available in two colorways – White/Silver, and Black/Gray.

Impressions/Testing –
Batting leadoff in any review can have its disadvantages, but the Adidas MC70 drilled one over the center field wall to start the proceedings. Simply put, the MC70 just might be our favorite three-stripes model since last year’s revival of the TOUR360. Given the $150 pricepoint, it’ll be a tough chore for the other brands to keep these from taking the title of best value in a Premium Tour golf shoe. These must be considered when shopping for a top-of-the-line golf shoe. Ding – none

ADIDAS – Adipower

According to Adidas – The AdiPower was inspired from the DNA of past models, designed for golfers who demand more from their footwear, providing a sporty aesthetic. The Repetitor cushioning technology gives consistent energy return. Adipower has a snug fit and breathability for long days on the turf. The rubber outsole with Traxion technology handles the heavy lifting of keeping you in place during the most aggressive swings.

- Waterproof leather upper for long lasting comfort
- Leather upper with classic 3-Stripes
- Primary lug shape and configuration for versatile traction wherever you play.
- Repetitor midsole for maximum energy return with lighter feel for enhanced perormance & comfort
- Extended Power Plane TPU Plate for superior grip, stability and endurant durability.

Impressions/Testing –
Sporty, clean looks with a semi-firm underfoot experience and solid traction and support. The on-course experience was fine, but we prefer BOOST cushioning over the REPITITOR midsole in the AdiPower. Value wise, $130 is about right where I’d expect these to be. Ding – tighter than usual toe box, less than adequate energy return for an athletic themed offering.

ALMA Mater – Beta Longwing

There are hundreds of shoe brands, and a fair amount of those brands produce golf footwear… but there aren’t many that are unknown to us. I’m often skeptical when someone tells me about a new brand. Why would anyone want to get into the golf shoe biz, and take on the industry titans that dominate the market share? Well, most recently, Payntr has shown everybody that it can be done, and quite well. So, when my friend and highly respected media colleague Megan told me about a brand called Alma Mater, I said, “I’m all ears.”
At this year’s PGA Show, I was introduced to CEONathan Brown – where he gave me the “Cliff Notes” version of the genesis of the brand. “We’ve spent decades designing shoes and building businesses for most of the large brands you know today as the leaders in our industry. Brands with swooshes, 3 stripes, 5 stripes, chickens, you name it. We know what works, what doesn’t, and where everything gets compromised. We decided we can create our own brand, and make shoes the way we’ve always wanted to… with full control over what gets built. We create our shoes for feel, performance, and fit… and believe the fine details mean everything.”
Along with Nathan Brown, Eric Sarin is a Co-Founder and Product Expert leads design and innovation (he previously worked for Adidas, Puma, K-Swiss, Le Coq Sportif and Skechers. Beatriz Gomez-Martinez is also a Co-Founder with over two decades experience in Footwear Operations at both Adidas and The Walking Company. She handles supply chain and logistics.

Nathan continued, “Every other golf shoe brand engineers three things separately – stability, cushioning, traction – creating a compromise within the shoe. We went a different way… what if all three were designed from the start to work as one integrated system?”
The Zipper, a TPU exoskeleton, creates the foundation, moving structure to the perimeter and eliminating the rigid slab sole entirely. The Slipper fills it with nitrogen-infused ETPU foam, the same technology elite ultra-marathon runners swear by. The Gripper providess adaptive traction created specifically for golf’s rotational forces. Together, you get swing performance and walking comfort.
Yep, 3PE Technology – One integrated system. Zero compromises. Zipper, Slipper and Gripper, way cool
As an aside, kudos to whoever came up with model name “Beta Longwing”, I thought for sure that was a wizard at Hogwarts affiliated with either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

Technical Specs
- Upper: Full-grain waterproof leather
- Lining: Genuine calfskin
- Midsole: Nitrogen-infused ETPU foam
- Outsole: Proprietary rubber compound with directional siping
- Construction: TPU perimeter exoskeleton (3PE Technology)
- Weight: 14.2oz per shoe (measured in a size 8)
- Traction: Multi-height hexagonal lug system
- Waterproof: Full-grain leather and nubuck options

Impressions/Testing –
On the course, Beta Longwing were superb – super comfortable, solid stability and traction. Several people commented on their cool looks and inquired about the brand. The Beta Longwing is definitely lifestyle versatile, but at $288, I’m not sure you’d wanna risk wearing out the outsole treads on pavement. Alma Mater really impressed in their debut. Ding – I’m nitpicking here, but the bulky extra-long cotton shoe laces seemed like an unforced error.

ASICS – Gel Kayano Ace 3

Asics Gel Kayano 3 has the DNA of a running shoe, with golf tech built in. The super comfortable heel padding improves the shoe’s overall fit, while FLYTEFOAM Blast Plus Foam in the midsole is an improvement over prior FF Blast – providing the better energy return for your walk down the fairway. Softer, updated Rearfoot GEL technology

- Water-resistant membrane
- Golf-specific upper supports swing
- FF BLAST PLUS cushioning
- Rearfoot PureGel Technology

The HYBRID ASICSGRIP™ outsole helps provide advanced durability and grip for various terrain.
Impressions/Testing –
The Asics Gel Kayano line has always been a steady performer with a solid baseline and moderate ceiling. It is effectively a running shoe with an all-weather upper, comfortable with an outsole created to grip turf. Nothing intricate here, I consider it a semi-minimalist golf shoe. DUCA DEL COSMA – Davanti 2

The Davanti 2 features a refined upper, crafted from premium multi-materials, including full-grain Italian Napa leather, and microfibre in the mid-foot and toebox. Arch support and CMEVA mid/outsole provides stability and a fair amount of energy return throughout your round.

- Waterproof Bootie System with gusseted tongue

Impressions/Testing –
I see Davanti as much of a lifestyle shoe as I do a golf shoe, similar to TRUE’s Anti Gravity in that it’s strength is in its versatility and comfort. The aesthetic is both classy and edgy. The ride can best be described as semi-cushy, which helps with stability. It’s durable, and the quality is as good as any spikeless in this review. Ding – No half sizes. - BOA® Fit System delivers micro-adjustable precision fit, engineered to perform in the toughest conditions

A firmer feel than anticipated was a bit surprising, but the BOA dial up fit system makes you wish that laces were abolished forever. Gore-Tex waterproofing and 3 year warranty are both the best of the review samples. Another update is the new, super-stretchy knitted sock, which enhances your comfort. PAYNTR – Reserve Classic Tour

Payntr keeps climbing the ranks, and in their short 5 years in the golf footwear industry, they have shown innovation and style of the highest order. They’ve reached a place where they may be competing with themselves (to refine and innovate models and styles to keep our expectations satisfied). Michael Glancy, Mike Forsey, and Jason Day (became a partner two years ago). The brand now has tour validation, with Min Woo Lee, Sam Burns (and Justin Rose, who chooses to wear the brand purely based on preference, not under contract).

Min Woo Lee’s tour kicks – designed for tour-level speed and stability.
Clarino™ Trivela microfiber upper and PMX Speed PLT (and a waterproof, breathable membrane) combine for locked-in comfort, while a PMXFoam midsole, PMXNITROGEN+ footbed, and TPU outsole with Fast Twist® Tour Flex Pro spikes deliver responsive cushioning and uncompromising traction.
- CLARINO Trivela™️ microfiber upper delivers lightweight support and flexibility
- WATERPROOF+ breathable membrane fused to lining and sealed with a waterproof bottom gasket.
- ARIAPRENE® tongue & bootie offers supreme foot lockdown to provide maximum stability and lightweight, breathable support.
- TPU Outsole, with Fast Twist insert system, delivers traction in three dimension for the life of the shoe.
- PMXNITROGEN+ Footbed delivers lightweight responsive cushioning for the life of the shoe.
- PMXFOAM Midsole with mock leather welt
- PMXSpeed PLT

Impressions/Testing –
The Reserve Classic Tour was the first shoes we received in 2026, and immediately, upon inspection we knew the bar for the other brands was set pretty high (especially considering, Payntr’s SC Eighty-Seven was our choice for best Tour-Premium Spiked for 2025). High marks for the classic timeless style and quality craftsmanship. Very similiar to the JDay 87’s in traction and feel underfoot, but with two tweaks we noticed right away – the padded ankle collar in the RCT provides that small comfort detail that makes a 4+ hour walk that much more enjoyable. And secondly, RCT includes a PMX Speed Plate, built to effectively harness ground reaction forces but at less cost. Two colorways white or black (with tan trim).

PAYNTR – All Day

The “All Day” model is part of the line of footwear inspired by Jason Day, that Footwear Creator Michael Glancy and the team unveiled at the ’25 PGA Show… but we didn’t get our hands on them at the office until late in ’25, so by default they have been grandfathered into this year’s review. These have gotten more on course action than any shoe in this review. In fact, more often than not, when an important road trip has come up – the ALL Day has been on my feet, or packed and ready. No higher praise than being selected for the rota of top 100 rounds at Cypress, Cal Club, Riviera, Bandon Dunes, etc.

- CLARINO microfiber upper delivers lightweight support and flexibility.
- WATERPROOF+ & breathable membrane fused to the lining and sealed with a waterproof bottom gasket.
- ARIAPRENE® tongue offers supreme foot lockdown to provide maximum stability and lightweight, breathable support.
- TPU Outsole delivers traction in three dimensions for the shoe’s life.

- PMXNITROGEN+ Midsole is engineered to provide maximum energy return, giving you the ultimate underfoot support.
- PMX SPEED PLT propulsion plate allows golfers to harness ground reaction forces more effectively.

It’s no accident that over the last five years or so, Payntr’s various models of spikeless footwear has become our choice for rounds when going spikeless. PUMA – Avant Tour

Avant Tour was another eye grabbing model that we became acquainted with in Orlando earlier this year. Puma’s new flagship features lots of eye candy, including a high-quality leather upper with fine detailing. PROFOAM removable spikes and the TPU outsole does the majority of the heavy lifting.

The Avant Tour was one of only a few shoes in the review that required a slight brake-in period. After a round or two, the initial stiffness of the outsole was good to go.

Impressions/Testing –
These look amazing, the leather quality and craftmanship is superb. The value is likewise at $170. There is a break-in period that is somewhat common for a formal leather shoe. Ding – The inside of the shoe feels a bit shallow, and I have fairly flat feet. A not a roomy toe box (try these on at a retailer before buying). SKECHERS – Flow SI

In recent years, Skechers has grabbed their share of the golf footwear market, and for good reason. They have tapped into a certain demographic that wants super comfortable, highly effective golf shoes at an amazing price… and each year their golf footwear gets better and better. All three of the models we reviewed (two spikeless, FLOW SI and PURE SI and their tour-proven fully spiked Blade model) graded out quite well. - Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins® for an easy fit
- Heel Pillow® holds your foot securely in place

SQAIRZ – ProS2

Back in the day, I was an obsessed skateboarder… and the popular SoCal brand Powell-Peralta produced a deck called the Ray “Bones” Rodriquez Snubnose. It was unorthodox, but I loved it and skated the bowls and half pipe at Skateboard City in NY with that board until the gloaming many an evening. I digress, but when I see a brand like SQAIRZ, I think about innovation and creative-minded people. It’s not for everyone, it’s a different type of golf shoe, but they’ve built a legion of loyalists who appreciate the wider toe box, superior stability, and of course, the unique look of the squared-off toe cap. The “Snubnose” if you will (the brand can have the name, after all, I borrowed it from my 1979 deck).
The ProS2 is no gimmick, this is a solid golf shoe that wins the day in the stability category, and earns high marks across the board… but the star is the integrated Blumaka footbed, delivering top-shelf energy return and supreme cush so every step is a happy one for your feet.

Advanced Antimicrobial Grain-Textured Microfiber
100% Waterproof Protection + Fully Gusseted Tongue System
Classic Minimal Styling
Patented Roomier Toe Box Geometry
NRG™ Foam EVA Midsole
Lightweight TPU Performance Outsole
Hybrid SmartTraction™ System
Free Spikes for Life
Blumaka® Anti-Slip Performance Footbed
TPU Anti-Torsion Heel Stabilizer

It may be a small detail, but the Sta-Put Silicone-Printed Laces, are hands down the best shoelaces in the industry.
Impressions/Testing –
First thing you notice is the toe cap, it’s different for sure… but depending on how you feel about the form, that’s more of a “You thing”. Beauty is in the eye of the linkster. Stability is best in class. If you need tour validation, Kris Reitan just slayed all of the dragons at Quail Hollow wearing the ProS2. Ding – The ProS2 is a bit bulky, but the LT version trims the mass if you want the slimmed down version.

SQAIRZ – ProS2 LT

Copy and paste the 411 from the ProS2, except imagine it on Ozempic. The new LT Series is a slightly different animal, a combo of lightweight comfort and high performance… but in a svelt 425 grams. So if you like the features of the ProS2, but would prefer a version sans the bulk – the LT may be your golf shoe. Although, SQAIRZ claims of increases in swing speed, carry distance and improvement in dispersion, all metrics were inconclusive for me personally.

SUN DAY RED – Presidio

Sun Day Red, a footwear and apparel brand that’s a partnership between Tiger Woods and TaylorMade that was formed shortly after Woods and Nike parted ways a few years ago, but it wasn’t until this year’s PGA Show in January, that SDR rocketed off the launching pad with a complete line of new golf footwear. They introduced several new models, including the spikeless Presidio, and the fully cleated premium tour shoe – Pioneer Willow. We reviewed both for this year’s Best Links Footwear.

- Full-length ground contact outsole maximizes ground force reactions for optimal power transfer with strategic traction zones for enhanced performance
- Multi-directional lug placement provides superior interaction with any playing surface
- Lateral Stability Brace (TPU) provides critical stability and support in the midfoot area to maximize power transfer through the swing
- Full-length proprietary EVA midsole delivers superior comfort and smooth ride for all-day wear
- TPU External Heel Counter keeps the heel locked in and stable throughout the entire swing sequence
- Mesh reinforced with TPU film maintains weather protection while ensuring breathability and comfort
- Ghillies at the insteap area allow for diverse movement and articulation while keeping your feet securely locked in
- Engineered foam package on heel maximizes comfort while mesh tongue provides enhanced breathability and lace bite prevention

Impressions/Testing –
Presidio can be found on the feet of the Big Cat at SoFi during TGL matches, so if they’re good enough for one of the greatest players ever, what’s stopping you from checking them out. Presidio is sturdy low-profile offering with an emphasis on stability in a spikeless model… It’s likely that Woods’ instability in his foot/ankle was an influence in the design of the torque-free chassis. Presidio presents as a boxy silhouette with moderate cushioning and a simple, understated synthetic upper. The more I wore Presidio, the more I liked them.

SUN DAY RED – Pioneer Willow

Sun Day Red’s Pioneer Willow is the brand’s new premium tour model, loaded with all of the goodies – taking a run at FJ’s Premiere Series. With a mega-brand like TaylorMade behind the new Big Cat logo, do they need a prominent tour player to help bring exposure? Karl Vilips, a former Stanford standout, was named the first brand ambassador in February 2025, but CEO David Abeles confirmed the brand is in active talks with additional Tour players to build a “unified team”. I have no inside info, but a certain “Birdie Jesus” from England, who happens to be a TM staffer is still without an Apparel and shoe deal. Just sayin…

- Upper: Premium leather upper
- Blucher throat construction for a more adaptive fit, providing more adjustability and comfort
- Midsole: Proprietary EVA with a 6mm heel to toe drop, providing a stable, supportive and smooth ride during your golfing experience
- Outsole: High-Density TPU full ground contact plate with 9 cleat configuration with included removable Pulsar Soft Spikes
- Sizing: Fits true to size. Medium width. If you have a wider foot, we suggest sizing up a ½ size.

Impressions/Testing –
Willow is an authentic entry into the world of big-time tour premium leather golf gear. The top-of-the-line craftsmanship is evident as soon as you open the box. Ding – These come out of the box needing some break-in (I was trying to avoid the word)… but they are rigid to start.

TRUE LINKSWEAR – Anti Gravity

TRUE Linkswear’s Anti Gravity model was presented to the world at the PGA Show in January, and I admit I was smitten upon introduction. Since they arrived in the office sometime in March, I’ve worn them everywhere. Yes, they’re a worthy spikeless golf offering, but they’re so light and so comfortable that I’ve made them my lifestyle shoe of choice. Bringing elite running shoe technology to the golf course (with a Pebax® Superfoam midsole) was a brilliant stroke of genius by Jason Moore and the team. The result is explosive energy return and ultra-lightweight cushioning on every step.

Features
- Laminated Waterproof Construction (1-Year Warranty)
- Pebax® Superfoam Midsole
- Durable Ripstop Upper Shell
- TPU Mudguard
- Full-Length Nylon Speedboard
- Perforated Tongue for Enhanced Breathability
- Versatile On & Off Course Tread
- Antimicrobial Insert

Impressions/Testing –
Anti-Gravity might be my personal favorite from all of the footwear we’ve tested over the years from TRUE. If you produce a shoe that people wanna wear everywhere, the golf application is literally a bonus. I’m not sure what that means in terms of the AG being rated higher or lower than the other shoes in specific golf metrics… but if you catch me in an airport terminal, a hotel lobby, or covering a golf tournament somewhere, there’s a high likelihood that AG’s will be on my feet. Probably, also trying to nab a skin in the Friday game at WP9, anywhere that walking is involved. So, go get a pair of Anti-Gravity and thank me later. Ding – $200 (the price of footwear has jumped the shark in 2026.)
