Comeback Complete, Spieth Wins Valero Texas Open

Jordan Spieth celebrates his first win since the ’17 Open Championship

San Antonio, Texas – Jordan Spieth once again found his way to the winners circle – ending his 1,351-day victory drought by winning the Valero Texas Open by two shots over Charley Hoffman.

The 27-year-old Texan last claimed victory nearly four years ago at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on July 23, 2017. Spieth fired a final-round six-under par 66 at TPC San Antonio to finish on 18-under (270 total).

Charley Hoffman kept the finish interesting matching Spieth’s 66 on Sunday. He began the tournament with an opening round 75 (11 shots back), but Hoffman was red-hot over the holiday weekend posting rounds of 66-65-66 in his attempt to win for the first time in 5 years (and needing a win to get into the Masters). Spieth had opened up a two-shot lead by the turn thanks to four birdies on the outward nine, but Hoffman hung tough, he kept the preesure on with a 19-foot birdie putt at the par-3 16th to close within one. Spieth answered back with wedge to five feet and the holed putt on the short par 4 17th. Holding a two-shot lead on the last, Spieth made his par to secure the two-shot win over Hoffman – ending the winless period and rolling into Magnolia Lane with confidence.

Matt Wallace finished solo third, four shots back after a final round 70.
