Each February just weeks before the tournament, media and community leaders gather to learn about the what’s new for the event *(2015 Champ Jordan Spieth is making his return to the Copperhead course) and what does the defending champion have to say about the prior year’s victory. This year, the same Champion as in 2021 (two time defending title holder Sam Burns) joined the audience via conference call. The PGA TOUR has designated the Arnold Palmer Invitational as one of the new elevated events in 2023, and that leaves events like the Valspar Championship on the outside looking in, but Tournament Director Tracey West and the Valspar corporate sponsorship has doubled-down on making their event special. They announced that Grammy Award winner Darius Rucker will perform on Saturday, March 18th at the Osprey Driving Range for Valspar LIVE presented by Chick-fil-A. Admission is free for all with a tournament ticket.
“We try to have something for everyone,” added West. “With Valspar’s support over the last ten years, we’ve been able to grow beyond a nationally televised Pinellas County event. We not only pull from the entire Tampa Bay region, but Naples on up and Tallahassee on down. We are lucky to be the only PGA TOUR event on this side of the state. We have ticket holders from all over Florida and from 48 of the 50 states so tourism is important to us.”
The Rooftop presented by DEX Imaging will have DJ Fresh & Colt Knost of CBS Sports hosting throughout the tournament. The Rooftop will feature top-shelf drinks and food, with several celebrity guests involved in the mix high above the perimeter of the 18th green.
